Quantifying and Deploying Responsible Negative Emissions in Climate Resilient Pathways
The quantitative potential, effectiveness and impacts of negative emission technologies and practices (NETPs) are not clearly understood. To tackle this problem, the NEGEM project will use a multidisciplinary approach to go beyond the perspectives of climate physics and climate economics, on which climate scenario modelling is currently based. Focussing on a real-world perspective, it will filter the theoretical potential of NETPs through a range of key performance indicators. The project will determine the extent to which NETPs are needed to achieve climate neutrality and how their associated technical, economic and socio-political impacts could limit their contribution. The results could help to identify the actions needed to achieve climate neutrality.
