Lethal heatwaves are challenging India’s sustainable development
Published
The Global South bears the burdens of climate warming disproportionately. This research cluster at the intersection of built environment, climate warming, and gender showcases work focused on the Global South, especially India, examining how patterns of rapid urbanisation intensify climate vulnerabilities, hazards and ultimately risks. Through data-driven approaches the research cluster explores how urban form, housing conditions, and environmental exposures are modified and can have gendered impacts, and therefore how built environments can exacerbate or mitigate / adapt extreme heat stress, aiming to inform equitable and climate-resilient urban planning strategies.
